Harris will reassure major donors - and fails

Multiple Democrats publicly call for Joe Biden to withdraw from the Presidential campaign. Meanwhile, the Vice President is trying to win back key donors - with mixed results.

US Vice President Kamala Harris assured Democratic donors that Joe Biden will win the US Presidential elections in November. "We will win this election," Harris said in a hastily arranged phone call with important party donors. "We know which candidate puts the American people first: Our President Joe Biden." Biden had recently stated again that he would continue his campaign for the US Presidency in 2024.

Several participants in the call told the "New York Times" that they found the meeting overall unproductive and sometimes even condescending. According to the report, many believed that Harris' message ignored the legitimate concerns of donors about Biden's campaign.

A person familiar with the matter said Harris participated in the conversation "on direct request from senior advisors to the President." Democratic donors were invited to a 30-minute briefing in the invitation, according to a copy obtained by Reuters, to "discuss urgent new needs."

"I want to be clear," Harris said in the call. "Trump's convention this week was just an attempt to distract. He wants to divert attention from his record and his plan for Project 2025. Can you imagine them putting that in writing? It's another empirical proof that the effort in this race can't be any higher."

Biden is under increasing pressure from donors and from his own party to withdraw from the Presidential race. In the past few days, the number of those questioning Biden's physical and mental fitness for a campaign and his chances of winning has grown. Over 30 Democratic Senators and Representatives in the House of Representatives have publicly called for Biden to step down. According to insiders, several large Democratic party donors have hinted they may withhold their funds if Biden remains in the Presidential race. Vice President Kamala Harris is mentioned as a possible replacement for Biden in the conversation.

  1. Despite the calls from multiple Democrats for Joe Biden to withdraw from the U.S. Presidential Election 2024, Vice President Kamala Harris firmly declared to key Democratic donors that she believes Biden will secure another term.
  2. The Republicans, led by former President Donald Trump, are using strategic distractions in their convention to divert attention from their own record and plans for Project 2025, as acknowledged by Vice President Kamala Harris during her conversation with Democratic donors.
  3. In light of the mounting pressure on President Joe Biden from both party donors and Democratic officials, including over 30 Senators and Representatives who have publicly urged him to step down, the possibility of Vice President Kamala Harris taking over as the Democratic candidate for the U.S. Presidential Election 2024 has surfaced in conversations among party insiders.
