Under a Kamala Harris presidency, the nation would aim to leave its contentious disputes in the past.

Harris pledges to serve as the president for every American citizen.

In recent nationwide polls, Kamala Harris has a slim lead over her competitor. However, she understands that post-victory excitement fades, and she needs to provide substance now. At the Democratic Party convention, she commits to being a president who "takes charge and pays attention."

Just before her highly anticipated speech at the Democratic National Convention, her team released excerpts on Thursday (local time). "I want to assure those with various viewpoints: I promise to be president for every American," it states. Her objective is to pave a "novel route."

This election presents our nation with a rare chance to leave behind the bitterness, skepticism, and divisive struggles of the past, she asserts. The country has the chance to advance "not as party members or factions, but as Americans."

She intends to be a president who "takes charge and listens, is pragmatic, sensible, and common-sense oriented," the excerpts affirm. She will unwaveringly support the American people. In her speech in Chicago, set to commence at 04:45 CEST, she will officially receive her nomination as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate.

The excerpts propose that Harris will also address Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, in her speech. "He's not a serious man," her script indicates. However, a second Trump term in the White House would have severe implications. Contemplate the influence he would wield - particularly after the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that he's immune to criminal prosecution.

Trump secured a significant, albeit partial, victory in early July before the Supreme Court. In the question of whether former presidents are shielded from criminal prosecution, the court in Washington decided that this applies, at least, to official actions.

The Nation Needs the "Kamala Plan"

Harris entered the presidential race late. It was only in July that US President Joe Biden, following weeks of scrutiny regarding his capability to maintain the office, withdrew his candidacy and advocated for Harris as his replacement. She was then endorsed as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate in an electronic vote in early August.

Her nomination was formally ratified at the Chicago convention, and in her concluding speech, she will officially accept her nomination. Programmatic statements from her are also anticipated. "Voters already feel the 'Kamala vibe.' Now they need the 'Kamala Plan,'" political scientist Larry Sabato from the University of Virginia stated.

Harris' candidacy has ignited significant excitement within the party. In national polls, she slightly leads, but the election on November 5 will not be determined by national vote shares, but by the results in individual states. Should she win, Harris would be the first woman, the first African American, and the first individual with Asian roots to hold the US presidency.

Harris' speech in Chicago will be the convention's main attraction. Over the past few days, more than 20 million viewers have tuned in to watch the Chicago events on their televisions. On Wednesday (local time), her vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz officially accepted his nomination and rallied an enthusiastic crowd to relentlessly campaign for Harris' victory in November.

After releasing excerpts of her speech before the Democratic National Convention, Kamala Harris assured that she will be a president for every American, aiming to pave a novel route. Despite her intent to address Donald Trump in her speech, she criticizes him by stating, "He's not a serious man."
