Harris is enticing families with tax reductions
Kamala Harris Unveils Economic Strategy in Campaign Address, Proposing Tax Cuts and Price Gouging Ban
Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has discussed her economic strategy in a campaign speech. She's planning to reduce taxes for families and individuals with lower to middle incomes and intends to implement various measures to lower costs, primarily for the middle class, if she's elected.
Harris wants to propose a nationwide ban on price gouging for essential goods like food and to prevent excessive rental hikes by real estate agencies as president. She also plans to offer $25,000 in down payment assistance to first-time homebuyers and initiate a project to construct over three million new homes within a four-year period. Many of her plans require approval from Congress, whose composition and majority will also be determined by the November 5 elections. Harris did not disclose her financing strategy for these proposals.
Harris Commends Biden Administration's Achievements
During her speech, Harris stated, "Regardless of how hard people work, many feel they can't progress financially." She praised the advancements and improvements made by President Joe Biden and himself. Harris added, "The US has the strongest economy globally," but there's a disconnect between this growth and the everyday experiences of many Americans. As president, she vowed to prioritize the middle class, addressing their financial stability, peace of mind, and dignity.
Donald Trump has widely criticized Biden and Harris for high prices in the US, labeling them as incompetent in handling inflation during his campaign in a press conference the previous day. Following Harris' speech, Trump posted on his online platform, Truth Social, "If you think prices are high now, wait until Kamala is president for four years." He warned of potential "communist price controls" and claimed these policies would lead to hunger and poverty, impairing America's recovery.
Harris clarified during her speech that she's not going to support price increases, stating, "I'm not going to allow corporations to exploit hardworking Americans by hiking prices unnecessarily." Regarding Trump's criticisms, Harris emphasized, "I'm not going to let fear-mongering and false promises distract us from addressing the real issues facing our middle class."
