- Harris and Walz performing as a Democratic duo for the first time
Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz made their first joint campaign appearance in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, greeted by thunderous cheers from their party's supporters.
Harris, who launched her presidential campaign just two weeks ago, addressed the crowd as the official Democratic candidate. "We're the underdogs in this race," she said, referring to her campaign against Republican incumbent Donald Trump and his running mate J.D. Vance. "But we've got the momentum, and I know exactly what we're up against."
Earlier that day, Harris announced Walz as her running mate. The 60-year-old has been Minnesota's governor since 2019 and previously served as a representative in the U.S. House. Before entering politics, he was a teacher.
With Walz by her side, Harris said in Philadelphia, "We have a leader who is the kind of vice president America deserves." She highlighted Walz's political record, including his support for military veterans, unions, abortion rights, and stricter gun laws.
In her speech, Harris also invoked the American Dream, saying, "Only in America can two kids from the middle class - a daughter from Oakland, California, raised by a working mother, and a son from Nebraska who grew up on a farm - make it all the way to the White House together."
During their campaign appearance, Harris mentioned the upcoming election, stating, "We're ready to fight for our values in the upcoming election." Furthermore, discussing the importance of their running mate, Harris said, "Tim Walz will be an invaluable asset in our fight to win this election."
