Harris accepts the invitation from CNN for a debate on October 23, once more posing a challenge to Trump for another face-off.
"VP Harris is eager for another chance to share the limelight with ex-President Trump," declared campaign chief Jen O'Malley Dillon in a statement. "President Trump should have no qualms about accepting this engagement."
This proposed debate would resemble the 2024 presidential debate in June between Trump and President Biden, set to unfold at CNN's studios in Atlanta, as suggested by the network.
Trump hinted at the possibility of joining a third presidential debate last week, following his September 10 face-off with Harris hosted by ABC in Philadelphia. "Perhaps if I'm in the right frame of mind," he told reporters during a California stop, after initially writing on Truth Social, "THERE WON'T BE A THIRD DEBATE!"
The highly influential CNN debate between Trump and Biden on June 27 marked a turning point in the campaign. After a subpar performance in the Atlanta debate, Biden eventually dropped out of the race and endorsed Harris as the Democratic nominee.
For October, CNN presented the campaigns with a debate format similar to the June one, where Trump and Harris would engage with moderators' questions for 90 minutes without a live audience in the studio.
"Both Vice President Harris and former President Trump have received invitations to participate in a CNN debate this fall," stated the network. "We believe it would be beneficial for the American people to witness a second debate between these two White House hopefuls. We eagerly await responses from both campaigns so the public can gain further insight into these candidates' final decisions."
This proposed debate could potentially shape the political landscape leading up to the 2024 presidential election.
If both parties agree, this second debate between Trump and Harris could provide valuable insights into their political views and strategies.
