Nine people hurt in incident - Hanover sees light rail collisions with trapped driver.

In the aftermath of a collision between two trams near Hanover's exhibition grounds on Monday, several individuals experienced injuries. A 61-year-old tram driver, trapped in his cab, was severally hurt and hospitalized, as per a police spokesperson. Altogether, nine others sustained minor wounds. Previously, the police estimated at least 16 victims, presumed to include a significant number of students.

As for the cause of the accident, the aforementioned information remained ambiguous, with the police engaged in an investigation. The force of the crash led to one of the trams coming off its tracks. Firefighters and rescue teams rushed to the scene, bringing with them over 80 personnel and almost 30 vehicles.

As relayed by rescue services, an empty tram collided with a stationary tram situated at the Messe-Ost stop. A considerable number of passengers were onboard the latter, many of them students having come from a visit to the Ideas Expo at the Hanover Fairgrounds. Due to the impact, several of these students endured various injuries, as mentioned by a firefighter.

The Ideas Expo is primarily a platform targeting children and adolescents, endeavoring to stimulate them by showcasing developments in technology and natural sciences.
