Hamburg fire department gets 70-meter colossus
The Hamburg Fire Department is gearing up. In the future, rescue teams will have a new vehicle at their disposal that can operate at heights of up to 70 meters. In addition, there is a new crane and a new fire-fighting system.
According to reports, the largest deployment vehicle of a German professional fire department has been presented in Hamburg. The so-called Telescopic Mast Fire Truck (TMF70) has a basket that allows firefighters to rescue people and extinguish fires from heights of up to 70 meters. This is stated in a press release from the Hamburg Interior Department. It costs 1.6 million Euro.
"With its working height of up to 70 meters, the Colossus was designed primarily for rescues from great heights and depths, and it also reaches the new container bridges in the harbor," the press release states. The TMF70 also has a thermal imaging camera. Senator for the Interior Andy Grote said that the fire department is expanding its response capabilities with the new vehicle.
"The Telescopic Mast Fire Truck TMF70 is a gain for the safety of the people of our city," said the deputy head of the Hamburg Fire Department, Jan Peters. "The vehicle makes a valuable contribution to rescues from heights and depths, hazard assessment, and firefighting."
In addition, the authority and the fire department presented a crane that can lift up to 38 tons and a so-called cutting fire-fighting system. The fire department crane is intended to secure loads during extreme weather events. It costs 1.1 million Euro. The cutting fire-fighting system can cut through concrete and metal with a high-pressure water jet. This will give firefighters access to fire sources that are otherwise difficult to reach.
