A 27-year-old guy, who suffered severe injuries when a balcony gave way in Hamburg, has passed away. He succumbed to his wounds on Monday, as reported by the Hamburg police. This unfortunate incident took place during a housewarming event for furniture delivery, prior to the scheduled move into the apartment.
The incident occurred on the evening of last Wednesday, when the floor of a balcony on a residential building in Hamburg-Langenhorn suddenly caved in. Six individuals, all aged between 18 and 27, were assisting a friend move his first set of furniture into the apartment, as he was planning to move in soon. Two of them are still hospitalized, but their conditions are not critical.
Authorities are still probing the cause of the collapse
The exact reason behind the balcony floor's breaking and subsequent collapse remains unclear. "The Hamburg State Criminal Office's investigation into the balcony collapse is still ongoing," stated the police. They are also looking into whether any criminal activities, such as construction faults or a neglected building condition, might have contributed to the incident.
A structural engineer was called to inspect the building after the accident. As a safety measure, all residents were temporarily prohibited from using the balconies in the building complex.
The 27-year-old individual's tragic death was directly linked to the collapse of the balcony during the housewarming event.
