summer vacations - Hamburg Airport expects a large crowd

With the start of Hamburg's summer holidays after the last school day on a Wednesday, Hamburg Airport expects a large influx. "Our top tips for passengers: Be on time at the airport. We recommend at least two hours before departure in peak times like the summer holidays," said airport spokesperson Katja Bromm. Passengers are also advised to use the online check-in for luggage and themselves, which reserves a time window at the security checkpoint. Traveling with only carry-on luggage will also go faster through security.

The Hamburg Airport expects approximately 355,000 passengers per week during the summer holidays. In peak periods, which included the holiday Fridays, there were expected to be around 55,000 passengers and up to 400 takeoffs and landings. The different holiday schedules this year have disrupted the situation – Lower Saxony, Bremen, and Denmark have already started their holidays – but the passenger numbers are predicted to be slightly higher than the previous summer and on a similar level as the strong autumn holidays of 2023. In Schleswig-Holstein, Friday is the last school day.

"As an airport team, we have taken great care in preparing for a smooth summer start," said Bromm. All partners on site reportedly have more staff on duty. The Federal Police have equipped the passenger control with six CT scanners, which accelerate the process. The security check will be staffed daily from 3.30 am until the end of October.
