Hamas reports 29 dead from Israeli attacks since end of ceasefire

In the first few hours since the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip ended, at least 29 people have been killed in Israeli attacks, according to the radical Islamic group Hamas. Several children were among the victims, according to the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health in the coastal area.

The ministry reported seven deaths in Jabaliya and the city of Gaza, twelve deaths in Chan Junis and Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip and a further ten deaths in the al-Maghasi refugee camp in the center of the Palestinian territory.

The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas expired on Friday at 07:00 (local time, 06:00 CET). The Israeli army then announced that it had resumed fighting against the radical Islamic Palestinian organization in the Gaza Strip, while Hamas fired rockets at Israel. A source close to Hamas told AFP that the armed wing of the Palestinian organization had "received orders to resume fighting" and "defend the Gaza Strip".

The ceasefire had been in force since Friday last week. During the ceasefire, a total of around one hundred Hamas hostages were released, including several German dual nationals. In return, 240 Palestinian prisoners were released from Israeli prisons.

On October 7, hundreds of Hamas fighters had invaded Israel and committed atrocities, mainly against civilians. According to Israeli reports, around 1,200 people were killed in Israel and around 240 people were taken hostage in the Gaza Strip.

In response, Israel massively bombed targets in the Gaza Strip from the air and on the ground for weeks. According to Hamas, which cannot be independently verified, more than 15,000 people have been killed in the Palestinian territory since then.
