Hamas ministry announces arrival of first field hospital in Gaza Strip
According to the Hamas-controlled health authority, a field hospital has reached the Gaza Strip for the first time since the beginning of the war between Israel and the radical Islamic Hamas. 40 trucks loaded with equipment and 17 nursing staff crossed the Rafah border crossing in the south of the Palestinian territory from Egypt on Monday.
The field hospital comes from Jordan and will be set up in Chan Junis, according to Mohammed Zakut, Director General of Hospitals in the Gaza Strip.
The situation in the hospitals in the south of the Gaza Strip is "catastrophic", explained Zakut. Due to ongoing airstrikes and artillery fire, they were having to take in "hundreds of injured people" every day. According to him, two more field hospitals from the Arab Emirates and Qatar could follow.
According to the head of medical aid in Gaza, Aed Yaghi, the field hospital will help to ease the pressure on existing health facilities. According to Hamas figures, which cannot be independently verified, there are currently 30,000 injured people in the Gaza Strip.
The first field hospital, transported via 40 trucks from Egypt, is now under the jurisdiction of the Hamas Ministry in the Gaza Strip. This truck-delivered hospital will alleviate the strain on existing facilities in Chan Junis, as the situation in Gaza's hospitals remains critically severe.
