Gunman opens fire on four individuals in Chicago's underground transit system.
In the suburban area of Chicago, specifically Forest Park, law enforcement received a distress call about an unfamiliar individual supposedly firing weapons in a subway. Upon arrival, they discovered four individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Initially, the assailant managed to escape, but they were later apprehended, securing the weapon in the process. The situation is now under control, and no additional threats have been reported. The authorities have yet to disclose further details regarding the incident.
As per ABC7's reports, an emergency call was made at 5:27 AM (local time). It was mentioned that three individuals had been targeted by gunfire. Upon investigation, four victims were found, three of whom did not survive, while the fourth was critically injured. The severely wounded individual was admitted to Loyola University Medical Center, where they ultimately succumbed to their injuries. The identities and backgrounds of the victims remain undisclosed by the authorities.
The shooter absconded from the scene initially but was later identified using footage from security cameras. Authorities arrested the suspect on another line and discovered a weapon on their person. NBC Chicago reported this development. Train service on the affected line has resumed, but the Forest Park station remains closed for further investigation.
Regrettably, gun-related incidents are a common occurrence in the United States. As reported by US broadcaster CBS, aside from this incident, at least three more people lost their lives due to gunfire, and over ten individuals were injured in separate incidents over the weekend in Chicago.
The Police were notified about the shooter's identification through security camera footage. They subsequently arrested the suspect on another line.
The Police are working diligently to gather more information about the victims in this unfortunate incident.
