Early premiere - GTA VI officially announced: This is what the trailer reveals about the most hyped game of the decade

It's been ten years since the last game in the series was released: with 190 million copies, GTA V is the best-selling game of all time after Minecraft. It goes without saying that developer Rockstar created a huge amount of hype with the announcement of a trailer for GTA VI. The introductory clip was finally released today. At the end, it becomes clear that the next installment of Grand Theft Auto will be released in 2025. But there are also plenty of hints as to where the journey will take us.

The biggest innovation is Lucia. The tough Latina is the first female main character in the series. Although there were also female gangsters in earlier parts, it was not possible to control them. Together with her lover, named Jason according to the leaks, she robs her way through the trailer in the manner of Bonnie and Clyde. If you believe the leaks, you can decide which of the two characters you accompany through the shared story - just as it was in the last part with the three main male characters.

Back to the city of sin

Fans of the series will immediately recognize the setting: Vice City, a fictional version of the US metropolis of Miami, was already the location of the 2002 series of the same name. Back then, the characters shot, stole and murdered their way through the cocaine-infested Miami of the 1980s to the sound of synthesizers. "Miami Vice" from the gangsters' point of view, so to speak. Rockstar now seems to want to repeat this vibe, but with a modern twist: the neon color palette and matching music also appear in the trailer, but otherwise the new part clearly seems to be set in the present day.

This is indicated, for example, by a kind of social media app that can be seen repeatedly and is reminiscent of a mixture of Twitter/X and Tiktok. The content there matches the rest of the vibe: a man pulls a crocodile out of the pool, a woman dances on the roof of a moving car. With parties, speedboats and, of course, lots of gangster behavior, countless possible activities are hinted at in the game.

From the beach to the swamp

The locations shown are also enormously varied. From the famous wide sandy beach in Miami Beach to the skyscrapers of the city center to the hood, the metropolis alone has plenty to offer. But unlike in the 2002 game, Rockstar now seems to have expanded the surrounding area in detail. The trailer shows the lush green islands of the Florida Keys and the swampy expanse of the Everglades. And even a hillbilly festival where people drink in the mud in front of monster trucks.

The transportation in the game is just as varied: Of course, the Ferraris from the "Miami Vice" role model should not be missing, vintage cars and lowriders are of course part of a GTA. However, the fact that you can travel the Everglades in style on a propeller-driven swamp boat is a novelty. Helicopters, various boats, motorcycles and tons of other cars can also be seen in the trailer.

However, the trailer doesn't even touch on one of the most important questions for many fans: Multiplayer doesn't feature at all in the clip. However, it is to be expected that Rockstar will put a lot of effort into this aspect: Even more than ten years after its release, the multiplayer mode is still raking in hundreds of millions of euros for the developer every year. This cash cow is therefore unlikely to simply come to a standstill.
