Kamala Harris's vice presidential campaign crew has apparently amassed a jaw-dropping $540 million (roughly €482 million) in contributions since her campaign kickoff. They've branded this as a "historic" figure. Over $80 million was poured in during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago only last week. The bulk of the support arrived post-Harris' speech on Thursday night (local time).

One-third of these donations originated from first-timers, the team disclosed, pointing to strong backing from the Democratic grassroots. Females made up two-thirds of these new contributors, they revealed further. These figures are yet to be confirmed by an external source; they'll become official once the campaign team submits their financial declaration to the proper authority. Running a presidential campaign in the U.S. is a financial marathon, with only the well-funded being able to keep going and contend.

Joe Biden, the US President, announced his stepdown from the presidential race on July 21 and endorsed Harris as his successor. Harris was officially nominated by the Democrats and accepted the nomination in Chicago. She'll square off against Republican Donald Trump in the presidential election on November 5, promising a tight tussle between the Democrat and the ex-president.

The US election campaign has seen Kamala Harris's vice presidential campaign surpass $540 million in donations, with a significant portion arriving post-her speech. Harris was officially nominated and accepted the nomination in Chicago during the Democratic National Convention, where she received more than $80 million in contributions alone.
