Green Party leader Lang: See no one else but Habeck for the Green top spot in the Bundestag campaign

**The Greens want to go into the Bundestag campaign next year with "a person at the helm," according to their party chairwoman Ricarda Lang. This would help the party "both in terms of trust and clarity," Lang said on ZDF-"Summer Interview" on Sunday. After the withdrawal of Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, she sees "nobody else" but Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck for this role, Lang added. The decision on this matter will not be made until later in the year.

Whether the Greens will explicitly put forward a Chancellor candidate or Chancellor candidate in the face of low polling figures for months is still open. The times when parties can only get 30 percent are over, Lang emphasized. "Then we would only have a Chancellor candidacy," she said, looking at the Union, which currently leads the polls with a large margin. "That wouldn't be good for democracy."

The approximately 13 percent that the Greens have received in the latest surveys cannot be "where we remain," Lang continued. Regarding a possible coalition, Lang looked at the re-election of EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen (CDU), whom the Greens have supported: "We as Greens have shown that we are reliable partners."**
