Google has revealed the anticipated launch timing for Android 15 update.

It appears that Google might have unveiled the Pixel 9 series of smartphones, however, they don't include Android 15. Contrary to companies like Apple, who typically equip their latest devices with the most recent major OS updates, the Pixel 9 or Pixel 9 Pro runs on Android 14. However, this situation won't last long: It's now publicly known when Android 15 will be released for compatible devices.

Android Authority was the first to announce this information, sourced anonymously. Even though a Google representative denied shareable news at the time, the company confirmed the release date shortly afterward. Google altered its release notes for the Android Beta Exit update, including this statement: "PLEASE NOTE: If you're waiting for the Android 15 stable update, disregard this OTA until Android 15 becomes available in October."

That's correct: Android 15 is due in October. Although we don't have an exact date just yet, according to Android Authority's source, the update could arrive around the middle of the month. At least we can be assured that there won't be any unnecessary anticipation during September.

Which devices will support Android 15?

Based on Google's beta requirements, Android 15 will be compatible with the following Pixel models:

  • Pixel 6 and 6 Pro
  • Pixel 6a
  • Pixel 7 and 7 Pro
  • Pixel 7a
  • Pixel Fold
  • Pixel Tablet
  • Pixel 8 and 8 Pro
  • Pixel 8a
  • Pixel 9 and 9 Pro XL

Of course, other manufacturers' devices will also receive the update, but the timing depends on their decision. Currently, you can try out the Android 15 beta on phones partnered with the following Android brands: Honor, iQOO, Lenovo, Nothing, OnePlus, OPPO, realme, Sharp, TECNO, vivo, and Xiaomi.

What does Android 15 offer?

Google's new update won't dramatically alter your smartphone experience, but it will introduce some fantastic new features, particularly regarding privacy and security. There's Private Space, which lets you create a specific area on your phone for private apps and files; Theft Detection Lock, which locks your phone if it detects theft; and Account Verification Lock, which requires your login credentials to set up the device as new, similar to Apple.

Fascinating additions include partial screen sharing, which allows you to share specific sections of your phone's display; notification cooldown, which lets you control the frequency of notifications from apps; improved Camera app controls; a high-quality webcam mode, enabling your Android device to function as an excellent webcam replacement; and further enhancements to satellite connectivity.

Following the announcement by Android Authority, anticipation for the Android 15 release date grows among tech enthusiasts. Despite the lack of specific details, the update is expected to arrive around mid-October, according to the sources.

The upcoming Android 15 release is expected to significantly enhance privacy and security features, introducing features like Private Space, Theft Detection Lock, and Account Verification Lock, making Android devices more secure.
