Glass industry in Germany did less business in 2023
The glass industry in Germany had less business in the year 2023. The revenue decreased by 3.1 percent compared to the previous year, amounting to 12.3 billion Euro, as the Federal Association of the Glass Industry announced on Thursday in Düsseldorf. The revenue was therefore both domestically and abroad declining.
Business in the individual business sectors developed differently. The flat glass manufacturers recorded a loss of more than 10 percent. For the flat glass processors - the largest segment of the glass industry - revenues decreased by about 4 percent, in the special glass industry by 0.7 percent. The largest decline was among glass fiber manufacturers. Their revenue fell by nearly 17 percent. The hollow glass industry was able to add 0.1 percent in comparison to the previous year.
"The glass industry has been in a record low since May 2023, which has had an impact on the overall result," said Association President Christian Quenett. "The overall economic situation is still difficult, and we don't see any signs of a quick recovery for the glass industry" he added, expecting recovery in the course of the year 2025. The Association represents the interests of about 400 companies in the industry with approximately 54,000 employees.
