Girl from Grevesmühlen reportedly safe following incident

A gang of youngsters supposedly hurled racist slurs and physically assaulted two girls from Ghana and their dad in Grevesmühlen, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Initially, it was reported that one of the girls had been hit in the face. However, after examining video and photo evidence, the police have since retracted their statements.

The situation in Grevesmühlen involving the two Ghanaian girls now seems different to the authorities compared to the initial account. According to the Rostock Police Presidium, "The eight-year-old girl hasn't suffered any physical injuries that correspond to the assault described in the original report." This news sparked outrage across the country.

The incident took place on a Friday evening when the eight-year-old girl was out with her ten-year-old sister in Mecklenburg. As per the police, the eight-year-old tried to pass by a kid on roller skates. "This kid apparently blocked her path with his extended leg and kicked her with his foot." A larger group of kids were hanging around the area at the time. The girls were reportedly terrified and ran to their parents, crying.

The girls' parents attempted to confront the kids, as reported by the police. This led to both verbal and physical arguments. "Insults were directed towards foreigners." Initially, the police reported that the eight-year-old girl and her father had sustained minor injuries. The information regarding the father's injuries remains the same.

A ten-person investigation team, led by the State Security Office, was formed to investigate the incident. The team invited the public to share any relevant tips. As a result, several photos and video recordings were submitted to the police. The investigation is still ongoing.
