Germany provides an additional million to Ukraine.
Germany is offering an extra 170 million euros to aid in the repair of Ukraine's damaged energy infrastructure. Spokesperson Steffen Hebestreit of the German government stated this on Wednesday evening, following a briefing on the Ukraine Compact during the UN General Assembly in New York. The Ukraine Compact is a collection of security assurances for Ukraine, which were agreed upon at the NATO summit in July, and have been signed by over 20 nations and the EU.
During this meeting, it was also announced that a joint statement from G7 countries and other Compact members would be made to support Ukraine's economic recovery and rebuilding efforts. This statement emphasizes the commitment to supply "military, financial, and humanitarian aid, as well as support for reconstruction." The G7 partners have pledged to provide approximately 50 billion USD (45 billion EUR) to Kyiv by the end of the year, according to Hebestreit.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet with US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday in Washington. The purpose of this meeting is for Zelensky to request additional support from Western allies during his multi-day visit to the US. Apart from presenting his "victory plan," which aims to end the Ukraine war, Zelensky's primary objective is to secure more assistance from international partners.
The G7 countries and other Compact members have committed to a joint statement, focusing on economic recovery and rebuilding in Ukraine. This commitment includes providing monetary policy support, alongside military, financial, and humanitarian aid, to aid Ukraine's reconstruction.
The potential monetary policy support from G7 countries can significantly contribute to Ukraine's economic recovery, as outlined in the joint statement made during the UN General Assembly.
