Germany and Poland have agreed on a joint defense and armaments policy
Germany and Poland have agreed in a joint action plan presented on Tuesday that they will work more closely together in defense and arms policy. Russia is currently the "immediate and greatest threat" to peace in Europe, according to the 40-page action plan approved at government consultations in Warsaw.
This plan aims to deepen bilateral cooperation in the coming years and strengthen the military power of the Western defense alliance at NATO's eastern flank. Sanctions against Russia and Belarus will be developed further. Both countries also declared that they will deepen their cooperation on a governmental level to provide military aid to Ukraine, for example in the repair and maintenance of Leopard-2 tanks. Poland is considering participating in the European Sky Shield Initiative (ESSI), a joint European air defense system initiated by Germany, according to the plan.
The joint action plan between Germany and Poland includes a focus on aligning their armaments policy, aiming to enhance their collective defense capabilities. Under this policy, both nations have committed to strengthening their military aid to Ukraine, including Leopard-2 tank maintenance. additionally, Poland is contemplating joining Germany's European Sky Shield Initiative (ESSI), a collaborative air defense system, as outlined in the action plan.
