Germans do not expect improvement in cooperation in government

Despite the agreement among the leaders of the traffic light coalition government in the budget dispute, a clear majority of Germans do not expect improvement in cooperation within the government. In a survey for ZDF-"Politbarometer", only seven percent believe that the cooperation in the Federal Government will improve now. Ten percent even expect a worsening and 79 percent anticipate no change.

There is also doubt whether the economic program agreed upon with the budget for 2025 will actually lead to more growth. 75 percent of those surveyed believe that the Federal Government does too little to boost the economy, two percent think it does too much, and 15 percent say it is just right. 58 percent of survey participants believe that the German economy is going downhill. Seven percent see a positive trend and 33 percent expect no change.

The greatest economic competence is still attributed to the Union, with 37 percent. Only nine percent see this at the SPD and the same for the Greens and the AfD. Five percent trust the FDP. For all other parties, it was below three percent, and 19 percent did not trust a high economic competence to any party.

In the Sunday question of the "Politbarometer", there was little movement: If there were a Bundestag election at that time, CDU/CSU would still be the strongest force with 32 percent (plus one percentage point). The values for the governing parties remained unchanged with the SPD at 14 percent, the Greens at 13 percent, and the FDP at four percent. The AfD came to 17 percent, the FDP to seven percent, and the Linke to three percent. These values also remained unchanged.

For the representative "Politbarometer", the Mannheimer Research Group Wahlen interviewed 1,341 randomly selected eligible voters by telephone and online from July 9-11. The possible error margin lies between two and three percentage points.

While the German government, specifically the traffic light coalition, may have reached an agreement on the budget dispute, the ZDF-Politbarometer reveals that a substantial 79% of Germans do not anticipate any improvement in cooperation within their administration. Moreover, Cooperation between the German government and potential partners could also face challenges, as only 7% believe that cooperation will improve now, with 10% expecting a worsening.
