- German weather forecast forecast heat and heavy thunderstorms
The week begins with hot weather in Germany, before severe thunderstorms move in. Tuesday could potentially be the hottest day of the summer so far, with expected temperatures reaching up to 37°C, according to the German Weather Service (DWD). The highest value recorded so far this summer was 35.4°C in Müllheim (Baden-Württemberg) on July 30th.
Tropical Nights
Moreover, high humidity on Tuesday will result in perceived temperatures of up to 40°C, leading to high, sometimes extreme heat stress, explains meteorologist Sebastian Schappert. "Nighttime temperatures will only drop slightly, with tropical nights ahead," he says. In particular, urban areas will not see temperatures drop below 20°C at night, with some areas even remaining around 24°C.
Forecast Details:
On Tuesday, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in the southeast from the start of the day. Otherwise, the day begins clear to sunny. From midday onwards, scattered cumulus clouds can form, with potentially strong thunderstorms developing, especially in mountainous regions. The DWD expects heavy rain, hail, and locally strong gusts of wind. Highest temperatures will range between 30°C and 37°C, with coastal regions and Ostvorpommern being slightly cooler.
DWD warns of severe storms
On Wednesday, according to forecasts, the west and northwest will experience shower-like rainfall and strong thunderstorms overnight. These will spread eastwards throughout the day. There is an increased risk of severe weather conditions due to heavy rain, hail, and isolated strong gusts of wind. Only the east and northeast will remain mostly dry. Temperatures will range from 29°C to 34°C, with cooler temperatures in the west and northwest.
On Thursday, the sky will be partly cloudy. The southeast can expect longer sunny periods, with potentially strong thunderstorms developing in the afternoon. Highest temperatures will range from 25°C to 32°C, with cooler temperatures expected in Schleswig-Holstein.
The German Weather Service (DWD) has predicted severe thunderstorms to follow the hot weather, which might disrupt the weather forecast for tropical nights. The weather forecast for Tuesday includes high humidity, potentially leading to heat stress, and anticipates thunderstorms in the southeast.
