Greek Vacation Horror: A German Guest on Crete Goes Missing, Leading to a Tragic Discovery

A tragic incident unfolded on the Greek vacation spot of Crete, as the lifeless body of a 65-year-old German tourist was discovered in the sea. The coast guard made the announcement on Saturday, revealing that a diver had located the woman's body between the beach resorts of Prassonissi and Triopetra. The body was then transported to the port of Agia Galini using a boat.

The German man, who was the woman's husband, reported her missing to Greek authorities after failing to hear from her since the late afternoon on Friday. The authorities, including the police and the coast guard, immediately initiated a search operation in response to the distress call. The husband stated that he had no idea where his wife may have gone, but speculated that she might have ventured into the sea for a swim. An investigation to determine the cause of death is pending.

At least eight foreign tourists have lost their lives on the Greek islands this summer, as the islands grapple with a heatwave. In late June, a 67-year-old German tourist tragically passed away on Crete after getting lost during a long hike and eventually being found deceased.

The body of British TV presenter Michael Mosley was discovered on Symi Island on June 9. A short time later, an 80-year-old Belgian traveler was found dead in eastern Crete near the ancient city of Lato. Among the victims were also tourists from the Netherlands and the United States. Two French women, aged 73 and 64, remain missing following a hike in June on the island of Sikinos.

Greece has been experiencing scorching temperatures for several months now. In light of these extreme conditions, the Greek health authorities have repeatedly issued warnings and advised tourists to avoid prolonged exposure outdoors during the hottest part of the day.

The German husband expressed concern that his wife might have gone for a swim, potentially leading to the bathing accident. Authorities are investigating if the bathing accident could have contributed to the woman's death.
