Due to the damage caused by heavy rain in southern Germany, train journeys will be heavily disrupted on Monday. The German Railway Company urged people not to travel to flooded regions in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. Passengers were recommended to delay trips wherever possible.
Long-distance trains are currently unable to reach Munich from the north and west. Local train services in Bavaria are also significantly affected. Accommodations have been provided for travelers in Stuttgart, Nuremberg, and Munich for those stranded due to the floods.
The German Railway Company has updated its refund policy for the affected Monday journeys. Passengers who purchased tickets for travel on Sunday to Monday can reschedule their trips. Connections for these tickets have been canceled, as per the company's announcement on Sunday. The spokesperson was unable to determine the extent of the disruptions.
Long-distance rail lines in the southern region faced service cancellations over the weekend. For instance, the Munich-Nuremberg-Berlin, Stuttgart-Mannheim-Frankfurt, and Karlsruhe-Stuttgart-Crailsheim-Nuremberg and Karlsruhe-Stuttgart-Ulm-Augsburg-Munich lines were hit. There was a derailment on Saturday evening involving an ICE train with 185 passengers near Schwäbisch Gmünd, resulting from a landslide. However, no injuries were reported. The Stuttgart-Munich route was temporarily closed due to this incident, but the damaged train was recovered on Sunday.
