German missing after inflatable boat accident on the Rhine

A 37-year-old German is missing in Switzerland after a paddle boat accident on the Rhine. While his Swiss companion was rescued last evening, there has been no trace of the man, according to the police report.

The man and the 28-year-old woman were on the paddle boat on the Rhine near Rheinau, about eight kilometers southwest of Schaffhausen, where there is a dam that generates power for a power plant. They were swept over the dam, the police reported. A passerby rescued the woman from the waters. The accident occurred around 21.30 hours. Fire departments from Switzerland and Germany searched the shore and the Rhine, but without success.

The Swiss police, for personal protection reasons, generally do not disclose the places of origin of the affected parties.

Despite being from different nations, the German and his Swiss companion shared a paddle boat on the Rhine. Fortunately, the Swiss companion survived the dinghy accident near Rheinau and was rescued, but regrettably, the German is still missing.
