European Football Championship - Gema: Berlin is undoubtedly the 'Public-Viewing-Master'

For the Football-EM 2024, Berlin has built the most Public-Viewing opportunities with a total of 2335 registered large screens and canvas sheets for public football broadcasts, according to the Gema in Munich.

Top EM locations

In general, the number in the EM locations is particularly high: Among the top ten in the Gema ranking are eight cities where matches were or will be held. Cologne ranks second with 833 Public Viewing locations, and Munich ranks third with 803 locations.

Just before the end of the tournament, the Gema reported over 26,000 public broadcasting locations in Germany for football broadcasts specifically registered for the European Championship.

Cologne leading in population

In terms of population, Cologne is at the top of the ranking. There were 8.2 Public-Viewing locations per 10,000 inhabitants. A similar density was also shown by Frankfurt am Main in the Gema's large city comparison with 7.9 locations per 10,000 inhabitants.

The evaluation refers to registrations specifically for the EM 2024: "Restaurants and pubs, which already have a yearly contract for music broadcasting via television and are showing the EM, are not included in the numbers," explained the Gema.

Gema involved in the music game

The collecting society is involved in the EM because musical contributions around the games, as well as the comments of journalists and journalists, are protected by copyright. This is important, for example, when a song like "Shake it off" by the US singer Taylor Swift is played in the stadium, as was recently heard - at the EM.
