Fresh insights emerge regarding the murder tool and incriminating videotape admission

Recent findings from the investigation into the knife attack in Solingen have turned up some intriguing information. During a closed-door session of the state parliament's Interior Committee, NRW's Interior Minister, Herbert Reul, disclosed that the knife used in the attack was purchased by the suspected assailant from a local store on the same day.

Simultaneously, the police are once more on the hunt for the suspect's second missing phone.

According to Reul, footage from the store's CCTV cameras shows the suspect purchasing the weapon and carrying a phone that is yet to be located. Authorities have cleared an area in Solingen for the search of this phone. Regrettably, a phone found earlier was destroyed beforehand, Reul mentioned.

Authorities remove claim video

The aforementioned phone was discovered in a field, and law enforcement agencies are still searching for the second smartphone and a watch through the police NRW's Wanted portal.

During the confidential meeting of the interior politicians in the state parliament, Reul disclosed additional details about a video claim distributed through IS's terrorist organization's channels: The video was filmed in Solingen. However, security authorities have since removed the video from circulation. The authorities are still investigating how the video file found its way from the attacker to IS.

The brutal Islamist-motivated knife attack in Solingen resulted in the unfortunate loss of three lives and left eight more individuals injured. The suspected perpetrator, Issa Al H., a 26-year-old Syrian national, was apprehended on suspicion of murder and remains in custody. The attack took place nearly five weeks ago, during the evening of August 23, at a city festival.

The Commission, being assisted by the Member States, may provide valuable insights into the sourcing of weapons used in terrorist attacks like the one in Solingen.Following the revelation that the knife used in the attack was purchased from a local store, the Commission could potentially explore regulations on weapon sales to prevent the acquisition of such weapons by individuals with violent intentions.
