After the losses in the European elections, Macron's camp is facing another defeat in the parliamentary elections.

French President Macron pursue continuation of his tenure till 2027.

Amidst the setback for his Liberal party in the European election, French President Emmanuel Macron schedules parliamentary elections. Yet, he affirms he'll carry on as President till his term ends, according to a letter he penned to the citizens of France. He hints at a policy overhaul in the letter, published by several newspapers.

A week before the upcoming parliamentary elections in France, President Macron expressed that he'll stay in office until May 2027, irrespective of the poll results. In his letter, he assured the citizens that he'd stay their President until then. Recognizing the need for a change, Macron agreed that the governing style must "dramatically evolve" post-elections. He's taken note of the French people's craving for transformation. Macron urged for "sharpened and bold measures" to tackle the chaos and lawlessness in the nation.

The President emphasized new policies concerning childcare, protecting minors, and combating all forms of discrimination as main priorities. He also recognized a strong call "for social justice," on the part of the French public. The future government, according to Macron, will unite "Republicans with varying ideologies who've demonstrated the courage to stand against extremes."

In the current political climate of France, the far-right, led by Marine Le Pen, is experiencing a surge in popularity. The Rassemblement National (RN), Le Pen's party, won a landslide victory in the June 9 European election. As a result, Macron disbanded the National Assembly and set the date for early elections.

Poll suggests Le Pen's victory

According to a survey published by "Le Parisien" and Radio France over the weekend, the RN has 35.5% of the votes, with the left-green electoral alliance, New Popular Front, trailing behind at 29.5%. The liberal camp of Macron lags in third place with 19.5% of the votes.

Although Macron is free to appoint a prime minister, he's reliant on this individual securing a majority in the National Assembly. This could result in a cohabitation, where the President and the government head hail from different parties.

At present, there's worry that the right-wing populists, the left-green alliance, and the government camp may stumble upon an impasse, potentially preventing progress.
