Parliamentary election - France's most popular singer mobilizes against the right
Global best-selling French singer Aya Nakamura called for a blockade of the far-right before the final round of the parliamentary elections. "I am well-placed to understand and know what place racism holds in our country", wrote the Franco-Malian singer on X.
"Now I understand that as an artist, I am required to speak out, as this is an important moment for us all", wrote the 29-year-old. "So we will all go to the polls on Sunday and vote against the only extremism that deserves to be condemned, as it is the only one that exists."
It is expected that Nakamura will perform at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris on July 26 at the request of President Emmanuel Macron. Neither Macron nor the singer have confirmed the possible performance yet. However, heavy racist attacks from the far-right against the popular singer, who grew up in a Parisian suburb, have followed.
Numerous French star footballers have warned against a power takeover of the National Rally by Marine Le Pen in France, including the captain of the national team, Kylian Mbappé.
