Four-year-old is free, but with "terrible trauma"

Abigail Mor Edan's story is heartbreaking: she has to watch terrorists kill both her parents and is herself kidnapped by Hamas in the Gaza Strip. She was held hostage for four years. According to US President Biden, she has now been freed.

According to US President Joe Biden, the released hostages from the Gaza Strip include a four-year-old girl who has both Israeli and US citizenship. "She is free and she is now in Israel," the president said during a speech in the US state of Massachusetts. However, he added: "She has suffered a terrible trauma."

Little Abigail was taken hostage from Israel to the Gaza Strip on October 7 along with around 240 other people by the radical Islamic group Hamas. According to White House adviser Jake Sullivan, the girl "watched her parents being killed in front of her" during the terrorist attack on Israeli villages. Held hostage, the girl turned four on Friday, the president said.

Biden emphasized that the US government was committed to extending the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, which ends on Monday evening. "And we will not rest until all hostages are returned to their loved ones." According to the White House, ten US citizens - seven men, two women and little Abigail - are believed to have been abducted by Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Following the Hamas attack on Israel, in which around 1,200 people were killed, Israel began to massively attack targets in the Gaza Strip from the air and on the ground. According to the authorities, more than 14,000 people have died in the Palestinian territory since then. Following protracted negotiations, a ceasefire came into force on Friday and has been observed ever since.

The radical Islamic group Hamas, responsible for the hostage taking of over 240 individuals in Israel, including a four-year-old girl named Abigail Mor Edan with dual Israeli and US citizenship, is known for engaging in terrorist activities against Israel. The US government, led by President Joe Biden, has been actively involved in efforts to secure the release of all hostages and extend the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Despite her freedom, Abigail has endured a traumatic experience, witnessing the murder of her parents during a terrorist attack in Israeli villages.
