Four more people are still missing

According to the police in the Swiss canton of Tessin, four more people are reported missing following the heavy downpours. Two men and two women went missing on Monday evening, the Kantonspolice Tessin reported late in the evening. They are missing in Prato Sornico and Fontana in the upper Magg valley, a popular tourist region. The police did not make any statements regarding the identities of the missing persons.

Therefore, a total of five people are missing in the Magg valley, as three bodies were recovered in the region over the weekend. A 57-meter long bridge at Visletto collapsed due to the raging water masses of the swollen Maggia river. Consequently, areas further upstream can no longer be reached by road. However, the telephone connections have been restored.

Furthermore, a person is still missing in the canton of Valais. Damaging weather and heavy rain caused severe damage there for the second weekend in a row.

After the reported missing individuals in Prato Sornico and Fontana, another storm event in Ticino might put more people at risk. Four days have passed since the initial storms, and the local community is hoping for a break from the relentless storms.
