Switch to EuroLeague club - Former NBA player Ibaka leaves Bayern-Basketball

Center Serge Ibaka leaves German Basketball Champion and Cup winner FC Bayern and will join another EuroLeague club. The 34-year-old, who spent 14 seasons in the North American NBA before coming to Munich last year, has not yet been announced as Ibaka's destination.

The NBA champion of 2019 was the top scorer in the European Elite League for the Bayern team with an average of 12.6 points, and he was also the number one in the rebound category. The defensive specialist born in the Congo with a Spanish pass scored an average of over 20 points in the league.

Ibaka thanked FC Bayern for the trust in his recruitment last year. "In a moment when many doubted me, FC Bayern Basketball gave me a chance," he said in the club statement. Business manager Marko Pesic stated: "We consider it a great honor for our club that Serge, after his successful NBA career, took a step back to Europe in Munich."

Previously, the former coach Pablo Laso and sports director Daniele Baiesi had already announced their departure from FC Bayern.

Despite his successful stint with FC Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, Ibaka's next stop will be another EuroLeague club, stepping away from the sporting landscape of Bavaria and Germany. The center's impressive NBA career includes being the 2019 champion's leading scorer, with an average of 12.6 points, and holding the top spot in rebounding for the team. FC Bayern, located in Munich, will miss his significant contributions both on and off the court, given his average of over 20 points in the league and his appreciation for the opportunity granted by the club.
