Former CNN executive Sam Feist appointed as CEO of C-SPAN.
For almost two decades, Feist has played a significant role in CNN's political operations based in Washington. He was once their political director and VP of Washington programming, managing all aspects of their political coverage and election nights, including determining winners.
His career at CNN started as an intern in 1989, and he later worked in various roles, from camera operator to guest booker to executive producer, in London, Atlanta, and Washington. CNN's current CEO, Mark Thompson, considers him a "CNN institution" and one of the most well-connected journalists in Washington.
In a memo to employees, Thompson acknowledged Feist's devotion to CNN and its staff and political journalism and expressed his regret at losing his guidance. Feist will officially leave CNN at the end of June and start his new role at C-SPAN later this summer.
C-SPAN described Feist as an "excellent manager" who is well-known and admired by politicians from both political parties and who values C-SPAN's mission as a nonpartisan public affairs network.
C-SPAN chairman Pat Esser stated that Feist's leadership qualities and respect for their nonpartisan mission make him the perfect candidate. Feist expressed his admiration for C-SPAN, viewing it as "an American treasure," and mentioned his eagerness to collaborate with C-SPAN's staff to broaden the network's influence and connect with new audiences.
Feist left CNN to take on the task of being the third CEO in C-SPAN's history. He is scheduled to step down from CNN in June and join C-SPAN sometime this summer.
