Following the crash of an F-16 fighter plane, President Zelenskyy dismisses the Head of the Air Force.
After the crash of a freshly delivered F-16 fighter jet from the West, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has given the boot to the head of the air force. He announced on Friday via Telegram that he was replacing Air Force Commander Mykola Oleschuk.
The Ukrainian military had shared on Thursday that the American-made fighter jet went down on Monday during a clash with Russian air assaults. The pilot sadly perished in the mishap. A batch of new F-16 fighter jets had recently been delivered to Kyiv by Western allies.
This incident has dealt a major blow to Ukraine. The administration in Kyiv has been relying on a vintage fleet of MiG-29 and Sukhoi fighter jets from the old Soviet Union to ward off heavy Russian air raids. They've been urging the West to expedite delivery of more modern F-16 fighter jets for quite some time.
The crash of the F-16 fighter jet has significantly affected Ukraine's defense strategy. Consequently, the president has decided to replace the air force commander following the unfortunate incident.
