During Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is making his first visit to the country on a Friday. A meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky is scheduled in the capital Kyiv, as revealed by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. India adheres to a neutral position regarding the Russian invasion, does not promote the Western sanctions against Moscow, and has turned into one of the leading buyers of inexpensive Russian oil on a global scale.
New Delhi has been vigorously advocating for a resolution via dialogue. Modi stated during a visit to Poland on the previous day, "No issue can be resolved through warfare. The most significant challenge for humanity is the loss of innocent lives in war zones." Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk urged Modi to engage in a mediator role in the conflict. Modi previously visited Moscow only last July. Captured images of the meeting between Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin, showing their embrace, spread like wildfire on social media. Zelensky openly criticized Modi's ties with the Kremlin. Afterward, India defended itself against the accusations.
