Enrique Delgado-Garcia, aged 25, encountered a "medical emergency" during a "self-defense training session" on Thursday, as reported by Lt. Sean Quirk to CNN via email.

A medical team nearby sprang into action, but their valiant attempts to save Delgado-Garcia fell short, and he ultimately passed away at the hospital, Quirk stated.

Delgado-Garcia joined the training squad in April and was set to graduate in the upcoming month. In his final moments, he took the oath of office and became a official trooper, surrounded by family and classmates, Quirk explained.

"The Massachusetts State Police mourns the unfortunate demise of Trainee Enrique Delgado-Garcia, and sends heartfelt condolences to his grieving family and loved ones," Col. John E. Mawn Jr. said in a statement.

Mawn described Delgado-Garcia as a "talented young individual who dedicated his life to serving others."

"Enrique showed an exceptional capacity to learn and a strong desire to provide top-notch law enforcement services to the people of Massachusetts," Mawn added. "By all accounts, Enrique embodied the qualities that would have made him an exceptional Trooper: kindness, compassion, dedication, a strong work ethic, and a deep-seated desire to help others."

The Worcester County District Attorney’s Office is conducting a review of the incident, as confirmed by spokesperson Lindsay Corcoran in an email to CNN.

"Our office has been actively and continuously examining the situation since we were made aware of it on Thursday," Corcoran noted.

Delgado-Garcia spent about 1.5 years working as a victim advocator for the DA’s office prior to his stint at the police academy, Corcoran added.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time," she concluded.

During this tragic period, our thoughts and prayers are with Delgado-Garcia's family and close friends, as they are part of us in this time of grief.

In light of this incident, the Massachusetts State Police stands by Delgado-Garcia's family, offering them all the support they need as part of our community.
