Following a stabbing incident, apprehension in the refugee encampment.
Following the stabbing incident in Solingen, law enforcement officials apprehended an individual at a local refugee shelter. The police are investigating potential links to the crime, as stated by a police representative.
Preceding the arrest, tips had been received, leading to the current police operations. A special operations team was also deployed, and the area was secured by a force of a hundred officers.
According to Bild, the 15-year-old suspect was apprehended shortly after the event, overpowered in his own residence by the SEK unit. The connection between the juvenile and the crime is currently under investigation. Spiegel reported that the detained individual is a Kyrgyz national living in a refugee shelter, and they are currently refusing to cooperate with interrogations.
Islamic State takes credit for the attack
At this moment, authorities do not believe that the 15-year-old is the actual culprit. He is merely suspected of failing to report planned crimes. According to witness testimonies, an unidentified person reportedly discussed plans that could be related to the crime with the teenager shortly before the assault occurred, as mentioned by Chief Public Prosecutor Markus Caspers.
The notorious terrorist organization, Islamic State, declared responsibility for the knife attack in Solingen through a statement from their media agency, Amaq. "The individual responsible for the attack on the Christian gathering in Solingen, Germany yesterday, was an Islamic State soldier, who carried out the attack in retaliation for Muslims in Palestine and everywhere else," the statement read. However, there is no substantiated proof to confirm that IS was directly involved in the attack.
Despite the arrest of the Kyrgyz national, investigations are ongoing to determine if he had any involvement in the stabbing incident. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, but there's no concrete evidence to support their involvement.
