Floods in northern France

In northern France, which has been hit by flooding, the announcement of more rain is causing further anxiety. In the Pas-de-Calais department, 388 schools in 279 municipalities will remain closed up to and including Tuesday, the authorities announced. 60 roads were impassable and the fire department was once again called out on dozens of missions. After days of rain, several smaller rivers in the region between Calais, Arras and Lille burst their banks.

The weather service Météo France warned on Monday that the situation could worsen in view of further rainfall. Farmers demonstrated in Calais on Monday morning and demanded better maintenance of ditches and canals to drain the water, as reported by the newspaper "La Voix du Nord".

After the storms "Ciaran" and "Domingos", which hit the north-west and north of France between November 1 and 5, the French insurance association France Assureurs put the damage at 1.3 billion euros. According to the association, a good 90 percent of the damage was caused to private homes and buildings. However, this figure does not include the damage caused by the floods in northern France.

The upcoming weather forecast of more rain has added to Ciaran's and Domingos's previous storm impacts, causing even more concern among residents in northern France. Despite the repairs post-Ciaran and Domingos, the intense rains have caused the weather to worsen, leading to Domingos potentially stirring up further trouble in the area.
