A thunderstorm caused flooded basements, overflowing streets, and traffic disruptions due to fallen trees in parts of Upper Bavaria and Swabia. According to a police spokesperson in Kempten, some streets were white with hail stones.
Between 6 pm and midnight on Friday, the police reported approximately 320 weather-related incidents, the spokesperson said. The focus was therefore in the areas of East- and Oberallgäu as well as the western part of the Lindau district. The follow-up incidents such as pumping out cellars lasted into the night.
Between 7 pm and midnight on Friday, there were approximately 230 incident reports in the entire area of the Police Presidium Upper Bavaria South due to the thunderstorm, a spokesperson in Rosenheim said. However, there were no major incidents. The main issues were flooded basements and trees that had fallen on roads and in some cases on tracks. No injuries were reported.
The unfavorable weather conditions in Kempten, situated in Swabia, were similar to those in Upper Bavaria, contributing to widespread flooding. The police in Upper Bavaria South reported over 230 incident reports during the thunderstorm, largely due to flooded basements and fallen trees. Despite these challenges, thankfully, no injuries were reported in the region. The weather-related disruptions also affected Swabians, causing traffic chaos and damage in some parts of their homes and streets.
