Bad weather - Flooding in parts of Lower Saxony due to heavy rain
Heavier rain caused flooded basements and overflowing streets in parts of Lower Saxony. Particularly in the Grafschaft Bentheim district, emergency services were kept busy. In Nordhorn, firefighters were called out to over 100 incidents, according to the fire department. A clinic was temporarily forced to close due to an influx of water. An overflowing rainwater retention pond caused numerous flooded basements in a residential area. Several roads were temporarily closed. According to the Nordhorn fire department, around 200 emergency personnel were on site.
In southern Lower Saxony, strong winds caused damage. According to the police, branches fell in Dissen am Teutoburger Wald and damaged several houses. The damage amounted to approximately 130,000 Euro. The fire department also reported damage to a nursing home due to the wind.
The German Weather Service (DWD) expects heavy rain, possibly with thunderstorms, along the coast on Saturday. It is expected to rain heavily in the entire north on Sunday. The western part of Lower Saxony will remain windy.
