Government - Flood anniversary and Dreyer farewell: Council of Ministers in the Ahr Valley
For her last cabinet meeting, Rhineland-Palatinate Minister President Malu Dreyer (SPD) will be in the Ahr Valley on Tuesday (11:00 am). The reason for this is the third anniversary of the fatal flood disaster. The cabinet will meet in Dernau in the Ahrweiler district. The reconstruction of the heavily damaged regions along the Ahr and in the Eifel is a priority for the state government, according to the State Chancellery.
The 63-year-old had announced her retirement in June. Dreyer's designated successor, Alexander Schweitzer (SPD), is also present at the cabinet meeting and will have appointments in the Ahr Valley afterwards. He is expected to be elected in the Rhineland-Palatinate Landtag in Mainz the following day. The people in the Ahr Valley are likely to pay attention to Schweitzer as well: Schweitzer has already emphasized that the reconstruction in the Ahr Valley will be a personal focus of his tenure.
Dreyer herself, however, has no individual appointments after the cabinet meeting - unlike last year. It is expected to be her last full working day as Minister President.
Before the cabinet meeting, the cabinet will have an internal meeting. The Ahr district representative Cornelia Weigand (party-less) and the mayors in attendance will also participate in the cabinet meeting.
