The police close the access road via the L3262 to the airport/Cargo City South because of a world war bomb.

Defusing explosive devices - Flight operations limited, roads shut down.

Consequently, flights at Frankfurt Airport will experience limitations on Friday night because of a bomb defusal operation. An autobahn is also scheduled to be shut down, according to a representative from Fraport. Two runways will temporarily be out of function, potentially resulting in operational delays and hold-ups, they reported.

The exact moment of the bomb explosion and the closure duration remains unspecified. Fraport suggests a possible time range between 5:00 and 9:00 pm. Passengers are advised to allow sufficient time for their journey and to verify their flight schedules prior on airline websites.

The bomb was discovered during construction near Terminal 3 on Friday. Its nature, a phosphorus bomb, hints at its historical usage during World War II.

The bomb's detonation will be controlled in the night, compelling the shutdown of autobahn 5 as well, which lies adjacent to the airport. The police haven't yet finalized the exact time and length of this closure. To keep the public updated, the police will inform them at least half an hour before the commencement of the closure - including through platform X. A safety zone has been established with a radius of around 1 km around the site where the device was found. Bomb disposal specialists have been dispatched to manage the bomb.
