Five dead in helicopter crash in Nepal
In a helicopter crash in Nepal, all five people on board died. The victims included a Nepali pilot and four Chinese passengers, according to a local police spokesperson. Their bodies have been recovered.
The helicopter, operated by the Nepali airline Air Dynasty, was traveling from the capital Kathmandu to the town of Syabrubesi, a popular starting point for trekking tours. The helicopter crashed near the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park north of Kathmandu. The cause of the accident is currently unknown.
Due to its mountainous terrain and rapidly changing weather conditions, as well as safety issues, Nepal, a poor Himalayan country, often experiences aviation accidents. The EU considers the safety oversight by Nepali aviation authorities to be insufficient.
Just last July, a crash in Kathmandu claimed 18 lives. In January 2023, a Yeti Airlines plane crashed while attempting to land at Pokhara airport, resulting in 72 fatalities.
