Five bodies found in wreckage of crashed US military plane off Japan
During a large-scale search operation off the coast of Japan, rescue workers found five bodies in the wreckage of a crashed US military plane on Monday. Diving teams from the USA and Japan confirmed the discovery of five of the eight crew members, the US military said.
According to the statement, the search teams located the bodies together with the main fuselage of the wrecked aircraft. Two of the five crew members found have already been recovered. The recovery work was ongoing.
The US military had previously announced that divers searching for the missing crew members had found mortal remains in the waters off southern Japan. These were discovered together with wreckage off the island of Yakushima. The identity of the dead has yet to be determined. Japanese broadcaster NHK reported that the front part of the plane, possibly including the cockpit, had apparently been found.
The Osprey CV-22 aircraft crashed off Yakushima on Wednesday last week with eight people on board. The body of one crew member was recovered the same day. Two other crew members are still missing.
In August, three US Marines died in the crash of an Osprey military aircraft in northern Australia; the cause of the accident was unclear. Last year, four US Marines died during a NATO maneuver in Norway when an Osprey crashed.

The identities of the five crew members found in the wreckage are yet to be confirmed. This tragic incident involving a US military aircraft occurred off the coast of Japan, specifically near the island of Yakushima. The discovery of mortal remains and wreckage in the same location suggests that further investigations are necessary to locate the remaining two missing crew members.
