Fisher-person plunges from shrimp vessel near Borkum
In the chilly North Sea, a tragic incident occurred when a fisherman plunged overboard from a crab-catching vessel somewhere between Borkum and the mainland of Lower Saxony. International collaboration involving fire departments and rescue ships has been ongoing since early this morning, yet, despite their best efforts, the missing fisherman remains untraceable.
The DGzRS, or German Society for Sea Rescue, based in Bremen, has mobilized search and rescue vessels from both Germany and the Netherlands. The DGzRS search and rescue ship "Hamburg" from Borkum is taking charge of the operation. A German Navy helicopter and an aircraft from a nearby country's search and rescue team are stationed nearby, adding to the pool of resources.
On Sunday morning, the unfortunate incident took place. The boat's captain reported it to the DGzRS alerting center for emergencies around 7:30 am, which promptly initiated the search. Support has been pouring in from neighboring Dutch fire departments, government ships, and local fishing boats.
Fire departments have also been scouring the coastal regions from shore. However, as the afternoon rolled around, the DGzRS announced that their search efforts had thus far proven fruitless. The operation to locate the fisherman is ongoing.
