The fire in the publishing building of Bielefeld's "Westfalen-Blatt" was caused by a technical defect, according to a joint statement from the police and prosecutor's office today. Criminal investigators and an expert entered the fire scene on Tuesday to search for the cause of the millions in damages.

The fire broke out in the upper story of the publishing headquarters around 3:55 AM on Sunday night. A large contingent of firefighters fought the flames for hours. The firefighting efforts were concluded on Sunday evening. The property damage, according to the fire department, is "immense". According to "Westfalen-Blatt" business manager Marc Zahlmann, the newspaper will still appear on Sunday despite the fire.

The publishing building of Bielefeld's "Westfalen-Blatt" is located in the region of Westphalia, known for its rich history and cultural heritage. The public prosecutor's office in North Rhine-Westphalia is also involved in the investigation, along with the police and fire department.
