Extremism - Fire in refugee home - investigation against suspect
After a fire at a refugee home in Swabia, the Central Office for the Suppression of Extremism and Terrorism (ZET) at the Munich Public Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation. A 40-year-old German is suspected of setting fire to the accommodation in Krumbach (Günzburg district) on June 23rd - according to official statements, this is a politically motivated act.
The alleged perpetrator has been in investigative detention since July 1st. He is accused of attempted arson.
In the apartment of the 40-year-old, "a Swastika symbol and further images and items indicating a right-wing attitude" were found, according to the Public Prosecutor's Office. The focus of the investigation is on the course of events and the motive. In addition, possible connections to further fires in communal accommodations are being investigated.
The residents of the refugee home in Krumbach detected a fire smell in the evening of June 23rd and called the fire department. In a storage room in the basement, fire traces were discovered by the emergency services, but the flames had already gone out. No one was injured.
