At around 16.00, the exceptional state was declared in the Lausitz control room, as a spokesperson confirmed upon request. The Fire Department was called to 90 weather incidents. No one was injured initially. Mainly, cellars were flooded and trees were uprooted. Calls for assistance were still coming in, the spokesperson added. A weather front had passed through Lausitz, pulling heavy thunderstorms with extreme rain and gusty winds, the German Weather Service had warned of extreme weather conditions in Southeastern Brandenburg.
The thunderstorms affected Cottbus, a city located in Lusatia, also experiencing severe weather conditions. The Fire Department in Cottbus was also actively responding to numerous calls for aid. The Helpdesk in Brandenburg reported an increase in weather-related issues, attributing it to the unusual weather conditions. Despite the exception state declared in Lausitz, residents continued to seek help from emergency services due to the ongoing storm. The weather in southeast Brandenburg continued to be unpredictable, with further instances of thunder and heavy rain predicted.
