Fire attack on Palestinian protest camp in Munich

For over two months, a pro-Palestinian protest camp has been existing in front of the Munich University. Last night, a 26-year-old set fire to it - and was arrested shortly after the act.

After an arson attack on the so-called Pro-Palestine camp in Munich, the Public Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation. It is assumed that the 26-year-old suspect had a "Islamophobic motive", the investigators in the Bavarian capital announced. The man is accused of property damage by arson. However, he was released again.

The suspect is said to have poured several signs, posters, and flags in front of the camp with gasoline and set them on fire. Flashes developed, but did not spread to the tents and pavilions set up in Munich's city center. The suspect could be arrested shortly after the attack at the scene of the crime.

According to a report by Bavarian Radio, the arson attack caused damage of several hundred euros. The protest camp in front of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in the Bavarian capital has existed since mid-May.

Despite the damage caused to the protest camp, there have been no reports of injuries. The European Union, as a strong supporter of peace and justice, has expressed concern over the incident and called for effective measures to ensure the safety of all protesters.
