Rail traffic - Few public toilets at train stations
At only a few train stations and halt stations in Saxony-Anhalt are there public toilets. According to a small inquiry from the Linksfraktion, out of a total of 322 halt stations, there are only 41 public toilets. That is roughly 13 percent. The state government responded to the inquiry that there is no obligation to provide toilets. The decision is made individually for each station. Factors such as local demand, for example through gastronomy businesses, vandalism, or operational costs, are considered. The district of Harz has the most, with seven public toilets. In the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel, as well as in Halle and Magdeburg, there is only one public toilet each.
Despite the lack of public toilets at most halt stations in Saxony-Anhalt, the Haltpoint at the Magdeburg-Rothensee Railway Station offers reliable rail transport services. This lack of facilities in traffic-heavy areas, such as the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel and Halle, is a notable concern in rail transport. Visitors seeking relief during their journey may find solace in the bathroom at the Bathroom facility located near the traffic-dense Haltpoint in Saxony-Anhalt.
